14 mm Stud Link Anchor Chain — 90 ft Shot

Certified metric stud link anchor chain, supplied in 90 ft (27.5 m) shots and certified to Lloyd's Register, ABS or DNV. Available in Grade 3 (U3, high strength) and Grade 2 (U2, regular strength) — choose above.

Grades and loads — 14 mm

Anchor chain cable comes in three grades. They share the same dimensions — a 14 mm Grade 2 chain and a 14 mm Grade 3 chain are the same size and take the same 14 mm Kenter — but they are made from different steel and they are not the same strength.

The proof load of each grade is the breaking load of the grade below

Look down the table: Grade 2's proof load (82 kN) is exactly Grade 1's breaking load, and Grade 3's proof load (116 kN) is exactly Grade 2's breaking load. That holds at every diameter, and it is the clearest way to understand what you are buying — a Grade 3 chain is proof tested to the load that would break a Grade 2 chain of the same size.

So going up a grade buys roughly 40% more breaking load in the same 14 mm section. That is the trade: the same size and the same fittings, stronger steel, more money.

Certification

Choose the classification society your specification calls for — Lloyd's Register, ABS or DNV. The certificate is supplied with the chain, and the grade is stated on it.

Joining it

Supplied in 90 ft (27.5 m) shots and joined with 14 mm Kenter joining shackles, sold separately. The Kenter must match the grade of the chain — a Grade 2 Kenter is not a substitute on Grade 3 chain.
