Cylindrical grinding media in special carbon/manganese steel, heat treated to a
uniform 500 Brinell through the section, from
12 x 12 mm to 32 x 32 mm (1/2 in to 1-1/4 in).
Cylpebs or slugoids?
Slugoids
Length equal to diameter. Being equi-dimensional they
tumble with the action of a ball while keeping the larger contact area of a
cylinder — introduced as the alternative to steel balls in the smaller sizes.
Cylpebs
The original cylindrical media, 12 mm to 30 mm
(1/2 in to 1-1/4 in) diameter, made to any required length.
Specify the length you want and we will quote it.
Why cylindrical media
For the same nominal dimension a cylinder and a ball stand in a ratio of
3 to 2 in both surface and volume, so the exposed surface per tonne
of charge is the same for the two. What differs is the contact: a cylinder presents
line and face contact rather than a point, which is why cylpebs are chosen for fine
grinding and for finishing duties where a ball charge leaves the product coarse.

Figures are calculated from nominal dimensions at the stated density and agree with the published mill tables to within rounding. They size a mill charge; they are not a certificate. Hardness is verified per ISO 6508 (Rockwell C) or ISO 6506 (Brinell) on request.
Other diameters and non-equal lengths are made to order — cylpebs are cut to the
length the mill needs. Ask and we will quote your dimension.
