Lead Plug(Pellet) QTY 3

Pure lead plugs, molded conical, for securing the taper pin inside a Kenter shackle. A Kenter is not safe to put into service without one. Supplied in packs of three.

Choosing the size

A plug is hammered broad end first into the dovetail chamber above the taper pin, and any excess is cut off flush. One plug therefore serves a small band of Kenter sizes rather than a single size — pick the band your Kenter falls in. Going too far down the range wastes lead and makes a poor job of the trim.

If you are unsure which band you need, tell us your Kenter size and we will confirm it.

Certification

Lead plugs are not a certified item and no certificate is issued for them. Lloyd's Register, ABS and DNV certify the shackle and the chain — not the plug that secures the pin. Ours are made by Dibblee Industries Ltd. in Canada, and that is the whole of the claim.

Fitting

1. Assemble the Kenter and drive the taper pin fully home.
2. Place the plug, broad end down, over the chamber above the pin head.
3. Hammer it until it fills the chamber completely.
4. Cut off any excess with a saw or pliers and dress it flush.

To disassemble, drive the plug out first, then drive the taper pin from the small end with a punch.
