Cast lead pellets to WRCC 1-1-1, Fig. 4, for clench shackles, buoy shackles and all lugged types. Nine sizes covering cable from 3/8″ to 4″. Supplied in packs of three.
These are not the Kenter pellets
The drawing carries two separate pellet series and they are not interchangeable. A Kenter is a lugless joining shackle and takes the lugless pellet; clench and buoy shackles are lugged and take these.
At the same cable size the lugged pellet is shorter and slimmer. At 2½″ cable the lugless pellet is 1 23/32″ long by 1.17″ across; this one is 1 3/8″ by 1.02″. Fitting the wrong one either will not seat or will not fill the chamber.

A is the length, B the small end diameter, C the large end diameter. Cable size is the chain diameter, not any dimension of the pellet. Weights are calculated from the cone geometry at the density of lead and are for the pellet as cast, before it is driven and trimmed.
The drawing leaves gaps between some bands — 5/8″ to 11/16″, 1″ to 1 1/16″ and so on. Those gaps are in the original. If your cable falls in one, ask us and we will tell you which size to take.
Fitting
Assemble the shackle and drive the taper pin fully home. Place the pellet large end first over the chamber above the pin head, hammer it until it fills the dovetail, caulk it well in, and cut off any excess flush. The drawing is explicit about the large end going in first — a pellet driven the wrong way round will not lock.
Safety
⚠️ Lead is toxic. Handle with gloves, keep away from food and drink, and wash your hands afterwards. Collect and recycle the trimmings rather than leaving them on deck or in the water.
Certification
Lead pellets are not a certified item and no certificate is issued for them. Lloyd's Register, ABS and DNV certify the shackle and the chain, not the pellet that secures the pin.
