For heat transfer only — not suitable for lifting. Kiln chain
hangs in a kiln as a heat exchanger and as a scraper. It is not rated for load,
it carries no working load limit, and it must never be used for lifting or
rigging. The catalogue page says so on every family and so do we.
The circular shape lets slurry and work-load pass through the links,
and the increased area intensifies heat transfer. Circular links rotate, which
means flexibility, minimum kinking, self-cleaning and even wear.
Flash welding gives a controlled, high-quality weld free of foreign material.
Greater area and weight also increase the scraping action on the kiln wall,
which helps prevent mud rings forming. Less expensive than proof coil
per square foot of surface area, and fewer pieces are needed for the
same area — which lowers installation cost as well.

Material: C1008, C1022, C1038, 8620. Surface area is the number that matters —
the chain is a heat exchanger, so area per foot decides how much chain the kiln
needs, and area per pound decides what that area costs you.

Weights are calculated at 0.283 lb/in³ for carbon and alloy steel, and
0.29 lb/in³ for stainless.
Fitting it
Chain hangs from a hanger through a
shackle. Both are quoted separately.
The shackle is pinned and locked with a plate: hang the chain on the shackle,
position it over the hanger, push the pin through both, place the locking plate
in its recess and straighten it with a few hammer blows.
